Not so much a puzzle as a curiosity. A man dies, leaving 7 camels to his 3 sons. His will stipulates that the eldest gets one half of the camels, the middle son one quarter and the youngest one eighth. Obviously they can't take fractions of camels, and asks a wise neighbour for advice. *

The neighbour lends them one camel, so they have 8. Son 1 takes 4, son 2 takes 2, son 3 takes 1, 7 altogether. They then return the neighbour's camel. Off course, the father's arithmetic was poor, because the fractions don't add up to 1. *
